Monday, March 2nd, 2020 – Day 4

Here are a few points of information pertaining to the week ahead:

Homework:

Monday – Wednesday:

Have your child choose 1 – 2 of the following activities per evening:

  • Alphabet Letter Names/Number Names
  • Alphabet Letter Sounds:  s through j
  • High Frequency Words
  • Alphabet Letter Printing/Number Printing

Thursday:

  • Guided Reading Book or Printed Book

Reminder:  Please have your child return his/her guided reading duo tang and book each Monday so that it may be used by another student.  Printed books can be kept at home and added to your child’s Ziploc bag of books.

Communication:

  • Classroom Blog:  Please be sure to Follow our classroom blog so that you receive all posts via email in a timely manner.
  • Zippered Bag/Communication Duo tang:  Please also be sure to check your child’s zippered bag and communication duo tang each evening, from Monday to Friday.

Unfortunately, I am unable to access my GroupWise email account until further notice.

Notes:

  • Leader/Assistant:  Our leader will be Sophia and our assistant will be Veyla this week.
  • Theme:  Our theme will be Transportation this week.
  • Scholastic Reading Club:  If you wish to place an order for your child from March’s Scholastic Reading Club catalogue, please have him/her return his/her paper flyer order form by or on Monday, March 2nd.  Payment can be made by cheque, made payable to Scholastic Canada Ltd.  Parents/Guardians can also pay online by visiting Scholastic Canada’s website at www.scholastic.ca.
  • Scholastic Book Fair:  Sherwood School’s second Scholastic Book Fair of the year will be held in the library from Monday, March 2nd until Friday, March 6th. The fair will be open from 8:45 am until 2:40 pm on Monday, March 2nd and Tuesday, March 3rd for students to browse through the selection of books.  On Wednesday, March 4th and Thursday, March 5th, the fair will be open from 8:45 am until 2:40 pm for students to purchase books.  Our class will be purchasing books on Wednesday, March 4th.   If your child wishes to make a purchase, please send money with him/her in an envelope, clearly labelled with his/her name and the amount of money enclosed on it.  Please also enclose your child’s “wish list” in the envelope.  Don’t forget to circle the title(s) of the book(s) your child would like to buy.  The fair will be open from 4:00 until 8:00 pm on the evening of Thursday, March 5th and from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon on the morning of Friday, March 6th for families to make purchases.
  • 100th Day of Kindergarten Show and Share:  It is hard to believe that the 100th Day of Kindergarten will be on Monday, March 2nd!  In honor of this special day, students are invited to bring a collection of 10 small yet similar objects to school with him/her for Show and Share on Tuesday, March 3rd.  Please send all 10 objects in a zippered sandwich baggie, clearly labelled with your child’s name on it.  Please also have your child practice counting the objects in French at home so that he/she can count them for his/her classmates at school.  We are going to have fun making 10 groups of 10 objects to see what 100 objects look like!  Thank you for your support in making this activity a success!
  • Home and School Fundraiser:  Sherwood School’s Home and School Association’s annual fundraiser is a March Break Fun Money Draw again this year!  Each student will receive a book of 8 tickets on Monday, February 24th.  Tickets are $10.00 each.  Please return all sold and unsold tickets, along with cash payment for sold tickets, in the envelope provided by Thursday, March 5th.  The draw date will be Tuesday, March 10th.  Thank you for your support!
  • Show and Share:  To complement this week’s integrated theme, Transportation, students are invited to bring a related object for Show and Share on Thursday, March 5th.  This week, please help your child introduce himself/herselfname the object and identify the colour of the object in French.  The following sentence structures may be helpful to your child:  Bonjour!  Je m’appelle _____.  Voici un/une _____ (name of object).  C’est  _____ (colour).  Merci!
  • Parent-Teacher Interviews:  Thank you for registering for your child’s Parent-Teacher Interview, which will be held during the late afternoon and early evening of Thursday, March 5th as well as during the morning and afternoon of Friday, March 6th at Sherwood School.  I look forward to meeting with you to discuss your child’s progress on these dates.
  • Lost and Found:  Please check the Lost and Found either before or after your child’s parent-teacher interview for articles your child has misplaced.  It is located on a table at the bottom of the stairs at the doors closest to the Gymnasium/Mobiles.
  • PD Day:  Please note that there will not be any classes for students on Friday, March 6th due to-Teacher Interviews.
  • Home and School Meeting:  Sherwood School’s next Home and School meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 10th at 7:00 pm in the school’s Library.
  • Book Exchange:  Due to the Scholastic Book Fair, which is being held in the school’s Library, our next regularly scheduled book exchange will not be until Wednesday, March 11th, Day 4.  Please have your child return his/her Library book(s) by or on Tuesday, March 10th, Day 3.  Please also note that if your child has an overdue Library book, he/she will not be able to sign out another book until the overdue book is returned.
  • Future Skating Dates:  Mark your calendar!  Our class will be going skating for the last time on Friday, March 13th from 8:45 – 9:45 am.  If there happens to be a one hour delay on that date, our class will skate from 9:45 – 10:45 am.
  • March Break:  Please note that there will not be any classes for students from Monday, March 16th to Friday, March 20th as it will be March Break.
  • Assessment and Evaluation:  I will be working with each student individually to assess his/her progress in fine motor development, early numeracy and early literacy again this week.  Our daily routine will be adjusted slightly to accommodate this activity.
  • Eye See…Eye Learn! Program:  Please have your child take advantage of the Eye See … Eye Learn! Program before June 30th, 2020.  The Eye See … Eye Learn! program is an eye health and vision awareness program which provides one free eye exam and, if required, one free pair of glasses to all Kindergarten students across PEI.  Please refer to the brochure at the following link for further information:  https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/sites/default/files/publications/eye_see_eye_learn_brochure.pdf.
