Monday, February 24th, 2020 – Day 6

Here are a few points of information pertaining to the week ahead:

Homework:

Monday – Wednesday:

Have your child choose 1 – 2 of the following activities per evening:

  • Alphabet Letter Names/Number Names
  • Alphabet Letter Sounds:  s through f
  • High Frequency Words
  • Alphabet Letter Printing/Number Printing

Thursday:

  • Guided Reading Book or Printed Book

Reminder:  Please have your child return his/her guided reading duo tang and book each Monday so that it may be used by another student.  Printed books can be kept at home and added to your child’s Ziploc bag of books.

Notes:

  • Leader/Assistant:  Our leader will be Mia and our assistant will be Sophia this week.
  • Theme:  Our theme will be Occupations this week.
  • Parent-Teacher Interviews:  Parent-Teacher Interviews will be held at Sherwood School during the late afternoon and early evening of Thursday, March 5th as well as during the morning and afternoon of Friday, March 6th.  Please refer to the notice was sent home with your child outlining how to book his/her appointment online at http://www.sherwood.schoolappointments.com.  Registration will begin Monday, February 24th at 9:00 am and close Friday, February 28th at 10:00 pm.  I look forward to meeting with you to discuss your child’s progress.
  • Pink Shirt Day:  All students are invited to wear a pink shirt on Wednesday, February 26th to demonstrate their awareness of bullying prevention at our school, in our community and online.
  • Show and Share:  To complement this week’s integrated theme, “Occupations”, students are invited to bring a related object for Show and Share on Thursday, February 27th.  This week, please help your child introduce himself/herselfname the object and identify the colour of the object in French.  The following sentence structures may be helpful to your child:  Bonjour!  Je m’appelle _____.  Voici un/une _____ (name of object).  C’est  _____ (colour).  Merci!
  • Anti-Bullying Assembly:  Our class will be attending Sherwood School’s annual Anti-Bullying assembly, performed the Grade 5 classes, at 12:20 pm on Thursday, February 27th.  All students are invited to wear a traditional costume or clothing that reflects their family heritage on that date too.
  • Absence:  Unfortunately, I will be absent Thursday, February 27th.  Madame Denise Uyterlinde will be replacing me for the day.
  • PD Day:  Please note that there will not be any classes for students on Friday, February 28th as it will be a Professional Development Day for teachers.
  • Food Services:  The next deadline to order from Sherwood School’s Food Services is Sunday, March 1st at 9:00 am.
  • Scholastic Reading Club:  If you wish to place an order for your child from March’s Scholastic Reading Club catalogue, please have him/her return his/her paper flyer order form by or on Monday, March 2nd.  Payment can be made by cheque, made payable to Scholastic Canada Ltd.  Parents/Guardians can also pay online by visiting Scholastic Canada’s website at www.scholastic.ca.
  • Book Exchange:  Our next book exchange will be on Monday, March 2nd, Day 4.  Please have your child return his/her Library book(s) by or on Thursday, February  27th, Day 3.  Please also note that if your child has an overdue Library book, he/she will not be able to sign out another book until the overdue book is returned.
  • Home and School Fundraiser:  Sherwood School’s Home and School Association’s annual fundraiser is a March Break Fun Money Draw again this year!  Each student will receive a book of 8 tickets on Monday, February 24th.  Tickets are $10.00 each.  Please return all sold and unsold tickets, along with cash payment for sold tickets, in the envelope provided by Thursday, March 5th.  The draw date will be Tuesday, March 10th.  Thank you for your support!
  • Future Skating Dates:  Mark your calendar!  Our class will be going skating for the last time on Friday, March 13th from 8:45 – 9:45 am.  If there happens to be a one hour delay on that date, our class will skate from 9:45 – 10:45 am.
  • Assessment and Evaluation:  I will be working with each student individually to assess his/her progress in fine motor development, early numeracy and early literacy this week.  Our daily routine will be adjusted slightly to accommodate this activity.
  • Breakfast Program:  Please note that in the event of a one-hour delay, Sherwood School’s Breakfast Program does not operate that day.
  • Change of Clothes:  Please make sure your child has a full change of clothes, including a shirt, pants, undergarments and socks in his/her backpack.  If possible, please pack your child’s clothes in a large Ziploc bag so they won’t get wet in transit to/from school.  Don’t forget to label all of your child’s clothing too!  Merci!
  • Eye See…Eye Learn! Program:  Please have your child take advantage of the Eye See … Eye Learn! Program before June 30th, 2020.  The Eye See … Eye Learn! program is an eye health and vision awareness program which provides one free eye exam and, if required, one free pair of glasses to all Kindergarten students across PEI.  Please refer to the brochure at the following link for further information:  https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/sites/default/files/publications/eye_see_eye_learn_brochure.pdf.
  • Extra Mittens/Gloves:  Please also double-check that your child has an extra pair of mittens/gloves in his/her backpack.  Don’t forget to label them as well!  Merci!
  • Lost and Found:  Please check the Lost and Found either before or after your child’s parent-teacher interview for articles your child has misplaced.  It is located on a table at the bottom of the stairs at the doors closest to the Gymnasium/Mobiles.
