It was lovely to speak with all parents/guardians last week during Parent-Teacher Interviews.  Thank you for continuing to support your child’s development throughout his/her Kindergarten year.  It makes all the difference.  I will contact parents/guardians individually between now and the end of June if there is a need for us to meet again.

  • Home and School Fundraiser Extension:  Sherwood School’s Home and School Association’s annual fundraiser is a March Break Fun Money Draw this year.  Each student received a book of 8 tickets on Friday, February 22nd.  Tickets are $10.00 each.  Please return all sold and unsold tickets, along with cash payment for sold tickets, with your child by Monday, March 11th.  Please remember to send sold tickets and cash in the envelope provided, clearly labelled with your child’s name and the amount of cash enclosed in it.  The draw date will be Wednesday, March 13th.  Thank you for your support!
  • Additional Copy of Second Term Report Card:  If you wish to receive an additional copy of your child’s second term report card, please write me a note in your child’s Communication Duo tang by Wednesday, March 13th.
  • Saint Patrick’s Dress-Up Day:  Students are invited to wear “vert” on Friday, March 15th in celebration of Saint Patrick’s Day.
  • Skating:  On Friday, March 15th, our class will be going SKATING at the Cody Banks Arena from 8:45 – 9:45 am as part of our Physical Education curriculum for the last time this year.  Parents/Guardians, please join us to help tie skates and enjoy a skate with our class.  Please note that helmets are mandatory for every person on the ice, including students, chaperones and teachers.  We will be leaving the school at 8:35 am and will meet all parents/guardians at the Cody Banks Arena at 8:45 am.  If your child is transporting his/her skates by bus, they must be carried in an enclosed kitbag.  Thank you in advance for your help!
  • Show and Share:  To complement this week’s integrated theme, “Saint Patrick’s Day”, students are invited to bring a “vert” object for Show and Share on Friday, March 15th”.  This week, please help your child name the object and identify the colour in French.  The following sentence structures may be helpful to your child:  Bonjour!  Je m’appelle _____.  Voici un/une _____ (name of object).  C’est  _____ (colour).  Merci! 
  • Second Term Report Card:  Your child’s Second Term Report Card will be sent home with him/her on Friday, March 15th.  Please complete and return the form enclosed with the report card, indicating that you received it, by Friday, March 29th.  Merci!

  • Scholastic Book Fair:  Sherwood School’s second Scholastic Book Fair of the year will be held in the library from Monday, March 4th until Friday, March 8th.  The fair will be open from 8:40 am until 2:35 pm on Monday, March 4th and Tuesday, March 5th for students to browse through the selection of books.  On Wednesday, March 6th and Thursday, March 7, the fair will be open from 8:40 am until 2:35 pm for students to purchase books.  Our class will be purchasing books on Thursday, March 7th.  If your child wishes to make a purchase, please send money with him/her in a zippered sandwich baggie, clearly labelled with his/her name and the amount of money enclosed on the baggie.  Please also enclose your child’s “wish list” in the baggie.  Don’t forget to circle the title(s) of the book(s) your child would like to buy.  The fair will be open from 3:00 until 7:30 pm on the evening of Thursday, March 7th and from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon on the morning of Friday, March 8th for families.

  • Cold and Flu Season:  Thank you for keeping your child at home to rest and recuperate when he/she is unwell.  I really appreciate your effort to avoid spreading his/her illness.  There has been an increased in the number of students coming to Sherwood School when they are not well.
  • Earbud Headphones:  If you have not already done so, please send one pair of earbud headphones in to school with your child for his/her personal use at the listening centre in our classroom.  Your child’s headphones will be stored individually, in a labelled baggie, and will not be shared between students.  Merci!

  • 100th Day of Kindergarten Show and Share:  It is hard to believe that the 100th Day of Kindergarten will be on Thursday, February 28th!  In honor of this special day, students are invited to bring a collection of 10 small, similar objects to school with him/her for Show and Share on Friday, March 1st.  Please send all 10 objects in a zippered sandwich baggie, clearly labelled with your child’s name on it.  Please also have your child practice counting the objects in French at home so that he/she can count them for his/her classmates at school.  We are going to have fun making 10 groups of 10 objects to see what 100 objects look like!  Thank you for your support in making this activity a success!

  • Valentine’s Day Tea:  Our class will be hosting a Valentine’s Day Tea on Thursday, February 14th at 9:30 am.  Each student is able to invite one family member (parent, older sibling, grandparent, aunt or uncle, for example) to attend the tea and enjoy a snack with him/her.  Please write me a note in your child’s Communication Duo tang by Monday, February 11th if a family member is not available and I will invite your child’s book buddy to be his/her guest.  Family members may enter the school through the doors closest to the the Gymnasium/Mobiles and do not need to sign in at the school’s Office, for this special event only.  It is going to be an exciting morning for all students!
  • Valentine’s Day Card Exchange:  Our class will be exchanging Valentine’s Day cards on Thursday, February 14th.  Please have your child write a card to each student in our class.  A class list was sent home with your child on Monday, February 4th.  Merci!

  • Scholastic Book Club:  If you wish to place an order for your child from February’s Scholastic Book Club catalogue, please have him/her return his/her paper flyer order form by or on Monday, February 11th.  Payment can be made by cheque, made payable to Scholastic Canada Ltd.  Parents/Guardians can also shop, order and pay online by visiting Scholastic Canada’s website at http://www.scholastic.ca.
  • Valentine Dress-Up Day:  Students are invited to dress in blanc et/ou rouge et/ou rose in celebration of Valentine’s Day on Thursday, February 14th.
  • Valentine’s Day Tea:  Our class will be hosting a Valentine’s Day Tea on Thursday, February 14th at 9:30 am.  Each student is able to invite one family member (parent, older sibling, grandparent, aunt or uncle, for example) to attend the tea and enjoy a snack with him/her.  Please write me a note in your child’s Communication Duo tang by Friday, February 8th if a family member is not available and I will invite your child’s book buddy to be his/her guest.  Family members may enter the school through the doors closest to the the Gymnasium/Mobiles and do not need to sign in at the school’s Office, for this special event only.  It is going to be an exciting morning for all students!
  • Valentine’s Day Card Exchange:  Our class will also be exchanging Valentine’s Day cards on Thursday, February 14th.  Please have your child write a card to each student in our class.  A class list will be sent home with your child on Monday, February 4th.  Merci!
  • Indoor Sneakers:  Please have your child’s Valentine’s Day Tea guest look at your child’s indoor sneakers to determine if your child’s indoor sneakers need to be replaced.  I have noticed that the Velcro on some students’ sneakers is not sticking anymore.  Merci beaucoup!
  • Skating:  Please note the date correction!  On Friday, February 15th, our class will be going SKATING at the Cody Banks Arena from 8:45 – 9:45 am as part of our Physical Education curriculum.  If your child is transporting his/her skates by bus, they must be carried in an enclosed kitbag.  Parents/Guardians, please join us to help tie skates and enjoy a skate with our class.  Please note that helmets are mandatory for every person on the ice, including students, chaperones and teachers.  We will be leaving the school at 8:35 am and will meet all parents/guardians at the Cody Banks Arena at 8:45 am.  Thank you in advance for your help!
  • Islander Day:  Please note that there will not be any classes for students on Monday, February 18th as it will be Islander Day.
  • PD Day:  Please note that there will not be any classes for students on Monday, February 25th as it will be a Professional Development Day for teachers.
  • Cold and Flu Season:  Thank you for keeping your child at home to rest and recuperate when he/she is unwell.  I really appreciate your effort to avoid spreading the illness.  There has been an increased in the number of students coming to Sherwood School when they are not well.
  • Earbud Headphones:  If you have not already done so, please send one pair of earbud headphones in to school with your child for his/her personal use at the listening centre in our classroom.  Your child’s headphones will be stored individually, in a labelled baggie, and will not be shared between students.  Merci!
  • Eye See … Eye Learn™ Program:  The Eye See … Eye Learn™ program is a health and vision awareness program which provides one free eye exam and, if required, one free pair of glasses to all students during their kindergarten year.  Please refer to the Wednesday, January 31st edition of Sherwood News for information on how your child can take advantage of this program.

  • Alphabet Letter Printing/Number Printing

Reminder!  Please ensure that your child’s Sound Book and High Frequency Word Ring travel to and from school, in your child’s zippered bag, each day as your child will be using them at school as well as at home.

Notes:

  • Leader/Assistant:  Our leader will be Cohen and our assistant will be Felix this week.
  • Theme:  Our theme will continue to be “Healthy Food Choices”, in particular, “Vegetables” this week.  We will be using our “Five Senses”, especially, our sense of “Taste” to taste test a variety of vegetables.  We will also touch on “Groundhog Day”.
  • Book Exchange:  Our next book exchange will be on Tuesday, January 29th, Day 4.  Please have your child return his/her Library book by or on that date.  Merci!
  • Vegetable Sharing Tray:  On Thursday, January 31st, our class will be making a Vegetable Sharing Tray.  Please send 1 vegetable with your child to contribute to the tray.  It should be a delicious way to conclude our theme!
  • Field Trip to the Atlantic Superstore:  Our class will be going on a field trip to the Atlantic Superstore (465 University Avenue) on Friday, February 1st.  We will be travelling by school bus, leaving the school at 8:45 am and returning by 11:00 am. Please pack a water bottle and full change of clothes (packed in a large Ziploc bag) in your child’s backpack on that date.  We will be provided with a healthy snack at the Atlantic Superstore.  Please be sure to pack extra snacks in your child’s lunch kit, though, as he/she may be hungrier than usual upon our return to the school!  Please send the $1.00 payment in a baggie, clearly labelled with your child’s name on it, with your child by Wednesday, January 30th at the latest.  It should be a fun morning!
  • Show and Share:  Students are invited to bring a small toy of their choice from home for Show and Share on Friday, February 1st.  This week, please help your child name the object and identify the colour in French.  The following sentence structures may be helpful to your child:  Bonjour!  Je m’appelle _____.  Voici un/une _____ (name of object).  C’est  _____ (colour).  Merci!
